On Friday 8 January the House of Lords will debate the Trade and Cooperation Agreement reached between the UK and the EU.

Trade and Cooperation Agreement
Members will debate the agreement reached by the UK and the EU on 24 December 2020: the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).

UK-EU future relationship
The TCA sets out the future relationship. The UK Parliament passed the European Union (Future Relationship) Act 2020 in one day on 30 December 2020. The TCA has been provisionally applied by both parties since 1 January 2021.

Debate
Over 120 speakers will take part – most remotely – including several former secretaries of state, a former First Minister of Northern Ireland and Nobel Prize winner, and a former head of the Diplomatic Service, UK Permanent Representative to the EU and author of Article 50.

The debate is expected to last for five hours.

Watch on Parliament TV from 11am. A House of Lords Hansard transcript is available from three hours after the debate.
