Lord Speaker welcomes Japanese Ambassador Hayashi

14 July 2021

The Lord Speaker met with the new Japanese Ambassador to the UK, Hajime Hayashi, to discuss the important role of parliamentary relations in the UK-Japan relationship.

They also discussed the importance of international co-operation on climate change ahead of the COP26 meeting in Glasgow; keeping the Tokyo Olympics COVID-secure, and the strong, historic cultural and business ties between the two countries.

Part of the Lord Speaker’s role is to support the work of the House with overseas legislatures and other international bodies by acting as the Ambassador for the House and engaging in parliamentary diplomacy both at home and abroad. Find out more about the role of the Lord Speaker.
