Coming up in the Commons: 14-18 June

We’ve put together a list of highlights to keep you on top of the legislation, debates and questions coming up in the Commons.

Monday 14 June

The House will sit from 2.30pm on Monday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Robert Jenrick MP.

There will be the following two urgent questions:

  1. Iain Duncan Smith MP - To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs if he will make a statement on the treatment by the Chinese Government of witnesses giving evidence to the Uyghur Tribunal in London. 
  2. Laurence Robertson MP - To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs if he will make a statement on the deteriorating situation in Ethiopia. 

There will also be the following ministerial statement:

  1. Matt Hancock MP – Covid-19 update

Main business will begin with the second reading of the National Insurance Contributions Bill.

Tuesday 15 June

The House will sit from 11:30am on Tuesday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Dominic Raab MP.

There will also be the following ministerial statement:

  1. Priti Patel – Report of the Daniel Morgan Independent Panel

Main business will begin with opposition day debates on:

  • Allocation of funding for the Catch-up premium
  • Covid-19 secure borders

Wednesday 16 June

The House will sit from 11:30am on Wednesday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis MP.

Prime Minister’s Questions will take place at 12 noon.

There will also be the following ministerial statements:

  1. Prime Minister, Boris Johnson - G7 and NATO summits 
  2. Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Barclay - Economy Update 

Members will present their ballot bills following last month’s Private Members’ Bills ballot. After this, main business will begin with the second reading of the Rating (Coronavirus) and Directors Disqualification (Dissolved Companies) Bill.

Thursday 17 June

The House will sit from 9:30am on Thursday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, George Eustice MP.

There will also be questions to Church Commissioners, House of Commons Commission, Parliamentary Works Sponsor Body, Public Accounts Commission and Speaker’s Committee on the Electoral Commission.

There will also be the following ministerial statement:

  1. Secretary of State for International Trade, Liz Truss - Update on Australia FTA negotiations

Main business will be two Backbench Business debates on:

  • Misuse of Drugs Act 1971
  • UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative and the G7

Friday 18 June

The House is not sitting on Friday.
