New Director General (Operations) of the House of Commons announced

We are pleased to announce that, following a competitive recruitment process, Marianne Cwynarski CBE has been appointed as Director General (Operations) of the House of Commons.

Marianne is currently Managing Director of the Governance Office and Secretary to the House of Commons Commission. She will take up the Director General (Operations) role with immediate effect.

Clerk of the House, John Benger said:

“With over 20 years’ experience in Parliament, Marianne brings a huge wealth of skill and talent to this key leadership role, which has a particular focus on the operational aspects that are so crucial to the functioning of Parliament. I warmly welcome Marianne to her new role on behalf of the whole Commons Executive Board and look forward to working together on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle said:

“Marianne was an exceptional candidate for this role and I have every confidence in her ability to provide excellent stewardship of the operational services that we all rely on in Parliament. Through the very effective work she has led to ensure that the House Service has been able to operate effectively during the COVID-19 pandemic, Marianne has shown she can deliver for Parliament, and I look forward to working with her in her new role.”

Marianne added:

“I am delighted to take up this new role. It’s been an honour to lead the Governance Office as Managing Director, and I look forward to this new challenge. As we look ahead, this is a time of transformation on many fronts for Parliament – I intend to ensure we meet these challenges head on, seizing the opportunities they present, and delivering for our staff, Members and all those that rely on our services.”

About the Director General (Operations) role

The role of Director General (Operations) is a major leadership, delivery and transformation role, and specifically responsible and accountable to the Clerk of the House for all the services delivered through three of the House’s key operational teams on a day to day basis - In-House Services and Estates, Parliamentary Digital Service and the Parliamentary Security Department.

Details on the appointment of Marianne’s successor as Managing Director of the Governance Office and Secretary to the House of Commons Commission will be announced shortly.
