Lords debates the Budget statement

The House of Lords debated the economy in light of the Budget statement, on Friday 12 March.
Speakers included a former Chancellor of the Exchequer, a former General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the President of the Confederation of British Industry.
Lord Agnew of Oulton (Conservative), Treasury Minister, put forward the debate and responded on behalf of the government.
Members
There were 120 members with wide-ranging experience across business, government and academia who took part. Speakers included:

- Baroness Kramer (Liberal Democrat), former vice president of Citibank
- Lord Lamont of Lerwick (Conservative), former Chancellor of the Exchequer
- Lord Monks (Labour), former General Secretary of the TUC
Debates
This was a general debate. During debates, members put their experience to good use to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.
This debate also served as the second reading of the Contingencies Fund (No.2) Bill.
