House of Lords COVID-19 update

The House of Lords Commission, chaired by the Lord Speaker, has increased chamber capacity for hybrid proceedings with effect from Thursday 20 May.
From Thursday 20 May, the capacity for speakers in the House of Lords chamber will be increased to 53 (from 30) as social distancing for members is reduced to one metre.
The House of Lords Commission, in consultation with Public Health England, agreed the changes on Wednesday 19 May.
The Procedure and Privileges Committee has revised guidance on proceedings from Thursday 20 May.
Social distancing in the House of Lords
Distancing around the rest of the House of Lords estate will remain at two metres. Members and staff are encouraged to wear face masks and take regular lateral flow tests.

The House of Lords will debate remote participation and hybrid proceedings on Thursday 20 May. The Constitution Committee recently published a report on the impact of the pandemic on Parliament.
