What's on in the Lords 15-19 November

Thursday 18 November
From 11am
Questions
Members will question the government for 40 minutes on:
- building new hospitals
- retained EU law
- leaseholder building safety costs
- improving rail infrastructure in the north of England
Three questions to Lord Frost, the Minister of State at the Cabinet Office, will follow on:
- Ireland/Northern Ireland Protocol: impact on Northern Ireland's place in the UK internal market
- Ireland/Northern Ireland Protocol: government plans to involve the Court of Justice of the European Union in dispute cases regarding the Protocol
- introducing physical checks on solid fuels entering the Republic of Ireland from Northern Ireland.
Debates
After questions the House will debate the following topics:
- The outcome of COP26
- The process of appointing members of the House of Lords
- Government’s policy on Initial Teacher Training
Legislation
From 10am
In Grand Committee, members will examine the Charities Bill at committee stage.
Friday 19 November

- Nagorno-Karabakh: ceasefire violations
- funding UK based landmine-clearance charities
- adopting a formal definition of Islamophobia.
Private Notice Question
Lord Foulkes of Cumnock (Labour), asked the government an urgent question on the action it is taking to secure the release and return to the United Kingdom of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.
Legislation
Members considered House of Commons changes to the Telecommunications (Security) Bill.
Members also continued line by line checks of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill at committee stage.
Debates
Members debated two committee reports in Grand Committee:
- Economic Affairs Committee report: 'Quantitative easing: a dangerous addiction?'
- European Union Committee report: 'Beyond Brexit: food, environment, energy and health'.
Statement
Members questioned the government on its COVID-19 update.
Tuesday 16 November
Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- Channel 4: a potential change of ownership
- COVID-19: self-isolation rules for international students
- Professor Kathleen Stock resignation
- reducing NHS England waiting lists.
Legislation
Members started further examination of the Dormant Assets Bill at report stage.
Members considered House of Commons changes to the Social Security (Up-rating of Benefits) Bill.
Debates
The Lords debated recommendations in the report by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia 'Fuelling the Moonshot'.
In Grand Committee, members debated a report from the Parliamentary Works Sponsor Body Annual Report and Accounts 2020–21.
Wednesday 17 November
Legislation
The House of Lords started its final examination (third reading) of the Professional Qualifications Bill.
Members continued line by line checks of the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill at committee stage. Committee stage continued following questions.
Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- Pregnant women offenders
- Report: Henry Dimbleby National Food Strategy: Part One
- The future constitution of Wales
- Stop and search powers.
Statement
The House of Lords questioned the government on Sunday's incident at Liverpool Women's Hospital.
Legislation
Committee stage of the Advanced Research and Invention Agency Bill took place away from the chamber in Grand Committee.
