The House of Commons will return on Monday 6 September, following the Summer Recess.
We’ve put together a list of highlights coming up this week in the House of Commons Chamber.

Monday 6 September
The House will sit from 2.30pm on Monday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Education, Gavin Williamson.
There will be three ministerial statements
- Afghanistan Update - Prime Minister
- Afghanistan Update - Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs
- Covid-19 Update - Minister for COVID Vaccine Deployment
The main business will be a debate on the remaining stages of the National Insurance Contributions Bill
Tuesday 7 September
MPs will meet from 11.30am on Tuesday, starting with questions to to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak.
There will be two ministerial statements
- A sustainable plan for the NHS and Social Care - Prime Minister
- Pensions Update - Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
There will also be a Business Statement from the Leader of the House.
The main business will be the second reading of the Elections Bill
Wednesday 8 September
Proceedings will begin from 11.30am on Wednesday, starting with questions to to the Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack.
Prime Minister’s Questions will take place at 12 noon.
Main business will begin with opposition day debates – subjects to be announced.
Thursday 9 September
The House will sit from 9.30am on Thursday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps.
The main business will be a debate on the remaining stages of the Rating (Coronavirus) and Directors Disqualification (Dissolved Companies) Bill.
There will also be a general debate on the legacy Of Jo Cox
Friday 10 September
The House will be sitting on Friday for second readings of Private Members Bills. Find out more about which Bills here.
