Christmas has arrived at a central meeting point in Parliament - following the gift of a tree by the ambassador for Georgia to the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Her Excellency Sophie Katsarava MBE presented Sir Lindsay Hoyle with the Nordmann fir to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations with the UK.

The seven-foot tree, whose seeds were harvested from the Racha province of Western Georgia, has taken pride of place in Portcullis House, which is a meeting and dining area for the parliamentary community.

Sir Lindsay said: "It is wonderful to have the most popular Christmas tree in the UK at the heart of Parliament as a symbol of 30 years of re-established ties and friendship between us and Georgia.

"I am so grateful to Her Excellency for gifting the tree, which was grown from Georgian seeds in Bromley."
