The parliamentary delegation of MPs and Peers to the newly created UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly (PPA) has today been confirmed.

35 members including 21 from the House of Commons and 14 from the House of Lords will join an equivalent number from the European Parliament as members of the new assembly.

The Chair of the UK delegation will be Sir Oliver Heald MP, and the full membership of the PPA has been set out in a written ministerial statement

The PPA has been established under the terms of the UK-EU Trade and Co-operation Agreement (TCA) which has been in operation since 1 January 2021.

It acts as a forum for the UK Parliament and the European Parliament to exchange views on their partnership. The TCA notes that the PPA should be informed of decisions and recommendations made by the Partnership Council, a joint UK-EU body established by the TCA to oversee its implementation.

The PPA is expected to meet twice a year, once in London and once in either Brussels or Strasbourg, issuing a report following each meeting.

Sir Oliver commented: “I am delighted that membership of the UK-EU Parliamentary Partnership Assembly has now been confirmed.

“The PPA will have a crucial role to play in ensuring there is proper parliamentary oversight of the important Trade and Co-operation Agreement.

“I’m looking forward to the first meeting of the PPA and working with our colleagues in the European Parliament to find new ways of co-operating with our closest neighbour and largest trading partner.”
