Recap what happened in the Lords from Monday 7 to Friday 11 March:
Questions
During Women's History Month, members pressed the government on the impact on women of the rising cost of living, in particular single mothers in poorer households.
Lords questions on the upcoming rise in National Insurance contributions, banning the sale of single-use plastics, the political situation in Zimbabwe, introducing a national green skills strategy and detention of political prisoners and attack of journalists in Belarus.
Bills
Further check and change of the Nationality and Borders Bill and Health and Care Bill continues, and members begin line by line check of the Nuclear Energy (Financing) Bill and Elections Bill. The main debate on the Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Bill took take place on Wednesday.
Debates
Members debated House of Lords committee reports on policing, law enforcement and security post-Brexit, the electoral system, and trust in digital technology.

Thursday 10 March
Members questioned the government on:
- the impact of the rising cost of living on single mothers in poorer households
- the detention of political prisoners, attacks on journalists and a constitutional referendum in Belarus
- number of care home residents evicted following complaints against the care home
- supporting the BBC World Service provide a service to the people of Ukraine.
Members questioned the government on a statement about Ukraine previoulsy made in the House of Commons.
Legislation
Members began line by line check of the Elections Bill as committee stage begins.
In Grand Committee, work away from the chamber, members debated regulations relating to:
- adult and child disability payment in Scotland
- early legal advice pilot scheme
- airport slots allocations
- disability assistance and information sharing in Scotland
- flood reinsurance
- national minimum wage
Wednesday 9 March
Members questioned the government on:
- introducing a national green skills strategy
- trade talks with India, Greenland and Israel
- its intention to join the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme
- matching donations received by the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for Ukraine.
Members also pressed government on plans to speed up refugee applications from Ukraine following a previous question in the House of Commons.
Legislation
Members considered House of Commons changes to the Public Service Pensions and Judicial Offices Bill, and further consideration of the Commercial Rent (Coronavirus) Bill at report stage.
The House conducted the main debate on the Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Bill.
In Grand Committee, work away from the chamber, members debated regulations relating to:
- social security up-rating
- pensions increase
- licensing of goods vehicle operators
- local government in Cumbria
- local government in North Yorkshire
- local government in Somerset
- greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme
- small businesses enterprise and employment
Tuesday 8 March
Members questioned the government on:
- publishing an action plan for prisoners serving indefinite sentences for public protection
- the political situation in Zimbabwe
- funding available for Bus Improvement Plans
- allowing a greater number of Ukrainians who do not have family in the United Kingdom to come to this country.

Further examination (report stage) of the Nationality and Borders Bill continued.
In Grand Committee, work away from the chamber, members began line by line check of the Nuclear Energy (Financing) Bill.
Monday 7 March
Members questioned the government on:
- the impact of the planned increase in the rate of national insurance contributions on the poorest sections of society
- outcomes of the first Global Refugee Forum
- allegations of misconduct against the former Chief Constable of Wiltshire and Cleveland
- banning the sale of single-use plastics and other single-use materials.
Legislation
Further examination (report stage) of the Health and Care Bill continued.
Members debated draft regulations relating to powers of the trade union Certifications Officer in relation to levy's payable and imposing financial penalties.
