The Delegation also includes a former Vice-President of the Assembly in the Rt Hon Lord Campbell of Pittenweem KC and a number of former Ministers within the Ministry of Defence and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

The Annual Session will conclude with a plenary sitting on Monday 21 November which is expected to include addresses by the President of the Assembly, Speaker of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Speaker of the Senate of Spain, President of the Government of Spain and Secretary General of NATO.

The Assembly will also agree its resolutions during the plenary sitting. Ahead of the session the UK Delegation will meet with His Majesty’s Ambassador to Spain.

The leader of the UK Delegation, the Rt Hon Alec Shelbrooke MP, commented:

“I am looking forward to leading the UK delegation to the 68th Annual Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

“The session will be an opportunity for colleagues to consider a range of reports and resolutions from the Assembly’s committees and to hear from the NATO Secretary General and senior representatives of the Spanish Government and Parliament.

“At a time when defence and security is in the spotlight following Russian’s continued illegal actions in Ukraine, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly provides an important forum to ensure close working and co-operation between parliamentarians across NATO member states.”
