Members of the UK Delegation to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) took part in an election observation mission this weekend to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The election observation involved close working between the OSCE PA and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Parliamentary Assembly of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO PA), Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the European Parliament.

In advance of the election, Members took part in briefings on election administration, campaign freedoms and media representation. The Delegation also met with candidates, political party representatives and the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission. Observers were present in polling stations across the country on Sunday 2 October.

A press conference to discuss the post-election statement of preliminary findings and conclusions was held on Monday 3 October.

Royston Smith MP, a Member of the UK Delegation to the OSCE PA, said:

“This election was an important opportunity for Bosnia and Herzegovina to demonstrate a clear commitment to free and fair elections.

I was pleased to contribute to this mission by observing voters in Sarajevo and holding the electoral process to account.”
