What's on in the Lords 5-9 September

Highlights of what’s coming up this week:
Questions
Look out for questions on water companies’ borrowing since privatisation, benefits of a four-day working week, support for low-income families with rising energy costs and improving access to treatments for NHS patients.
Bills
Members are expected to begin committee stage of the Energy Bill and the Social Housing (Regulation) Bill and will discuss the main principles of several private members' bills at second reading on Friday.
Debates
On Thursday, members of the House of Lords will debate improving patient outcomes and the impact of climate change on food security.

Thursday 8 September

Questions
Members of the House of Lords will question the government for 40 minutes on:
- the Horizon Europe research programme
- Royal Navy carrier with 36 F-35B aircraft
- end-of-life care, in respect of Archie Battersbee
- the impact of increased energy costs on care homes.
Debates
Members will debate the following topics:
Short Debate
Members will debate the impact of GCSE and A-level results on the attainment gap for young people in the North East of England.
Friday 9 September

Legislation
Members of the House of Lords will discuss the main principles and purpose of the following private members bills at second reading:
- Government of Wales (Devolved Powers) Bill
- OFCOM (Duty regarding Prevention of Serious Self-harm and Suicide) Bill
- House of Lords (Peerage Nominations) Bill
- Coroners (Determination of Suicide) Bill.

Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- repatriation of cultural objects to their places of origin
- support for low-income families to meet rising energy costs
- reforming leasehold as a tenure for housing
- Ethiopia.
Legislation
Members continued detailed examination of the Social Housing (Regulation) Bill at committee stage.
Debates
In Grand Committee, members debated objectives for a free trade agreement with India.
Statement
The House questioned a government statement on abulance waiting times.
Wednesday 7 September
Questions
Members questioned the government for 40 minutes on:
- the current military situation in Ukraine
- improving access to treatment for NHS patients
- re-opening UK gas storage capacity in the North Sea
- working age disabled people's personal assistants.
Private notice question
The Lord Speaker granted an urgent question on flood relief to Pakistan. Members quizzed the government on financial and humanitarian assistance.
Legislation
Members continued to examine the Energy Bill on day 2 of committee stage.
