Members of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly visit Washington D.C.

A cross-party delegation of MPs from the United Kingdom Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly visited Washington D.C. last week as part of ongoing inquiries into:
- Robotics and Autonomous Systems
- Challenges to Transatlantic Relations
- Transatlantic Economic Ties in the Context of an International Order under Challenge
- Innovation and security
- Energy Security, Economic Resilience, and Russia’s War of Attrition; and
- The War against Ukraine and the Country’s Reconstruction Needs.
The visit, led by the Rt Hon Kevan Jones MP, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Technology Trends and Security, and the Rt Hon John Spellar MP, Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Transatlantic Economics Relations included parliamentarians from 15 of the NATO member states. Meetings were held with experts at The Center for Strategic and International Studies, Johns Hopkins University, and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center amongst other engagements.
Commenting on the visit, the Rt Hon Kevan Jones said:
“This was an important and productive visit to the capital of one of the United Kingdom’s closest allies. The briefings received and meetings held helpfully built on previous work by our committees and the Assembly more widely and will feed into our outputs following the Annual Session in the Autumn.”
The Rt Hon John Spellar added:
“I was pleased to lead members of my Economics and Security Sub-Committee on this visit and found that we all benefitted greatly from our engagement with American experts and officials. The high level of interest in this visit reflects the prominence of the US within NATO and the priority parliamentarians from all NATO states place on the Alliance.”
