Coming up in the Commons 13-17 November

Here is an overview of debates scheduled in the Commons Chamber over the coming week. Please note, this business was announced in the Commons Chamber by the Leader of the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt MP, on Thursday 9 November. It is possible that changes will be made to the schedule of business throughout the week. Any changes will be reflected in What's On in Parliament.

Monday 13 November
The House will sit at 2.30pm, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride.
The main business will be a continuation of the debate on the King’s Speech. Proposed subject for debate: Building an NHS fit for the future.
Tuesday 14 November
Proceedings will start at 11.30am on Tuesday, starting with questions to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Jeremy Hunt.
The main business will be continuation of the debate on the King’s speech. Proposed subject for debate: Securing high, sustained economic growth in every part of the country.
Wednesday 15 November
The House will sit at 11.30am on Wednesday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, Michelle Donelan.
Prime Minister’s Questions will take place at 12 midday.
The main business will be the conclusion of the debate on the King’s Speech. Proposed subject for debate: Reducing serious violence and violence against women and girls, and raising confidence in policing and the criminal justice system.
Thursday 16 November
The House will sit at 9.30am on Thursday, starting with questions to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Lucy Frazer.
The main business will be a debate on the reports of the Speaker’s Conference on the employment conditions of members’ staff, followed by a debate on COP28.
The Private Members’ Bill ballot will be taking place at 9am. MPs will have the chance to introduce new Bills through the Private Members’ Bill ballot.
Twenty numbered ballot balls will be drawn by the Chairman of Ways and Means, Rt Hon Dame Eleanor Laing, with the names of the successful MPs read out. Those drawn highest in the ballot have the best chance of making progress with their Bill.
It is up to the MP to decide on the Bill’s topic – and 13 Fridays in each Parliamentary session will be allocated to debating these Bills.
