The House of Lords ballot for private members’ bills in the new session of Parliament was held on Thursday 9 November.
Private members' bills
Private members' bills are draft laws, which affect everyone, proposed by individual members of the House of Lords rather than the government.
Ballot
At the start of each session of Parliament, a ballot is held to allocate the order in which the first 25 private members' bills will be introduced in the Lords.

The ballot took place on the basis of bill titles. The full text of each bill will be published after its introduction.
Learn with the Lords
The ballot was held as part of an online learning event with schools from across the UK. As part of the Learn with the Lords series, students participated in a session to find out more about private members’ bills, took part virtually in the ballot and will follow the progress of the bills through the session.
