Lords completes line by line check of Trade (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) Bill

The Trade (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) Bill aims to enable the implimentation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). It will ensure the UK's compliancy with with the CPTPP by changing domestic rules on trade barriers, government procurement and intellectual property.

Line-by-line examination

Committee stage is a detailed line by-line-examination of the separate parts (clauses) of a bill.

Starting from the front of the bill, members work through to the end. It is also an opportunity for members to add changes (amendments) to the wording of the bill or for new clauses to be added.

Proposed changes  

Members speaking during the second and final day of committee stage put forward amendments (PDF) to the bill on subjects such as including provisions on the Artist’s Resale Right and the bill's impact on inward investment into the UK.
