Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill undergoes further Lords scrutiny

The Investigatory Powers (Amendment) Bill will amend the existing Investigatory Powers Act 2016 to ensure the UK's investigatory framework is equipped to deal with current and emerging threats.

Report stage is an extra chance for members to closely scrutinise elements of the bill and make changes.    

Proposed changes   

Members speaking at report stage put down amendments (PDF) to be considered on subjects including:

• reporting to the Intelligence and Security Committee
• personal data breaches.

Lords divisions 

There was one division (vote) on a proposed change to the bill.

Notifying a Judicial Commissioner

This vote was on amendment 1, which requires a person granting access to personal data in urgent cases to notify a Judicial Commissioner within 24 hours that they have done so.

Members voted 201 in favour and 227 against, so the change was not made.
