The House of Lords debated the content of the King’s Speech over six days following the State Opening of Parliament on Wednesday 17 July.

The King's Speech is written by the government. It sets out the government's legislative agenda for the new parliamentary session.

The House of Lords debated the different subject areas of the speech over six days.   

Day one: Thursday 18 July  

Members debated energy, the environment and housing.

Day two: Friday 19 July

Members debated creating opportunities: education, early years and healthcare.

Day three: Monday 22 July  

Members debated economic growth, infrastructure and employment.

Day four: Tuesday 23 July  

Members debated the constitution and devolution.

Day five: Wednesday 24 July  

Members debated justice and home affairs.

Day six: Thursday 25 July  

Members debated foreign affairs and defence.

After the debates
