Lords continues checks on Great British Energy Bill

Members of the House of Lords continue their detailed examination of the Great British Energy Bill at committee stage on Wednesday 22 January.

The Great British Energy Bill seeks to establish Great British Energy, as a publicly owned and operationally independent energy company.

Committee stage

Committee stage is a thorough examination of the individual parts (clauses) of the bill.

Starting from the front of the bill, members work through the clauses in order, considering changes (amendments) to the wording or proposals for new clauses.

Five days of committee stage have been scheduled so far:

  • Tuesday 3 December
  • Tuesday 17 December
  • Monday 13 January
  • Wednesday 15 January
  • Wednesday 22 January

Proposed changes

Members speaking on day five of committee stage have put forward amendments (PDF) to the bill on subjects including:

  • tidal barrage projects
  • financial principles of Great British Energy
  • meeting strategic priorities
  • ethical supply chains.
