Lords begins checks on Product Regulation and Metrology Bill

Members of the House of Lords began their line by line examination of the Product Regulation and Metrology Bill at committee stage on Wednesday 20 November.
The Product Regulation and Metrology Bill will update existing measures relating to the marketing, quantities and measurements of products sold in the UK in order to better protect consumers, deliver economic growth and ensure fair business practice among online and high street retailers.
Committee stage
Committee stage is a thorough examination of the individual parts (clauses) of the bill.
Starting from the front of the bill, members work through the clauses in order, considering changes (amendments) to the wording or proposals for new clauses.
Proposed changes
Members speaking at committee stage put forward amendments (PDF) to the bill on subjects including:
- government powers on risk regulation
- product safety and marketing
- environmental standards.
