Questions

This week members return to the chamber to quiz the government on junior police cadet schemes, regulation of newly qualified young drivers, bus emissions, domestic abuse, the BBC World Service, and voter registration. 

Bills

Members 'tidy up' the Bank Resolution (Recapitalisation) Bill and Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill. Plus, the key principles of the Football Governance Bill are up for debate.

Debates

The Autumn Budget, House of Lords reform, renewable energy costs, and the 'Universities UK' report recommendations are all on the agenda.

Committees

  • As part of its inquiry into economic inactivity, the Economic Affairs Committee speaks to experts from the Policy Exchange and the Centre for Social Justice.
  • The Public Services Committee continues its inquiry into interpreting and translation services in the courts.

Members then debate the key principles of the following bills at second reading:

  • Imprisonment for Public Protection (Re-sentencing) Bill
  • Women, Peace & Security Bill
  • Home School Education Registration and Support Bill
  • Listed Investment Companies (Classification etc) Bill.

Wednesday

The House of Lords quizzed the government on:

  • support for British journalists detained or killed overseas
  • Sharia-compliant student finance
  • indigenous population in West Papua.

Urgent question and statement

The government responded to an urgent question on small boat crossings and a statement on rail performance.

Legislation

Members made final changes to the Passenger Railway Services (Public Ownership) Bill and debated the key principles of the Football Governance Bill.

Thursday

The House of Lords pressed the government on:

  • voter registration and participation
  • increase in state pension age
  • effectiveness of BBC World Service
  • prisoner early release scheme.

Statements

Members quizzed the government following statements on winter fuel payments and the Chagos Islands.

Debates

Renewable energy costs, the impact of the Budget on arts, heritage and cultural organisations, and recommendations in the Universities UK report were all on the agenda in Lords debates.
