Lords conclude detailed check of Crown Estate Bill

Members of the House of Lords conclude their line by line examination of the Crown Estate Bill, on the final day of committee stage on Tuesday 22 October.
The Crown Estate Bill aims to widen the borrowing and investment powers of the Crown Estate to speed up the development of offshore wind projects, in collaboration with Great British Energy, and to deliver long-term financial returns to the taxpayer.
Line by line examination
Committee stage is a thorough examination of the individual parts (clauses) of the bill.
Starting from the front of the bill, members work through the clauses in order, considering changes (amendments) to the wording or proposals for new clauses.
Proposed changes
Members speaking on day two of committee stage put forward amendments (changes) to the bill on subjects including:
- the size of the Sovereign Grant, money paid by the government to the monarchy to fund official duties
- impact of salmon farms on the Crown Estate.
