Members consider Lords Spiritual (Women) Act 2015 (Extension) Bill
17 October 2024
House of Lords members continued their consideration of the Lords Spiritual (Women) Act 2015 (Extension) Bill at committee stage, on 16 October.
The Lords Spiritual (Women) Act 2015 (Extension) Bill aims to increase the number of women bishops in the Lords by extending the period in which vacancies among the Lords Spiritual are to be filled by bishops who are women, until 2030.
Line by line examination
Committee stage is a thorough examination of the individual parts (clauses) of the bill.
Starting from the front of the bill, members work through the clauses in order, considering changes (amendments) to the wording or proposals for new clauses.
Proposed changes
No amendments were put forward ahead of committee stage so the bill will progress directly to third reading. This process is known as 'order of commitment discharged'.
