On Saturday 29 November 2008, Parliament put up its Christmas tree in New Palace Yard.

The tree was donated by the Forestry Commission and comes from the Kielder Forest in Northumberland, a sustainable forest in which trees are grown specifically for Christmas.

In January 2009 the tree will be recycled and sent to be chipped and used for composting. It stands 50 ft high and is decorated with 1000 LED lights. There is a star at the top that is new this year.
