Committee hears from Czech Ambassador

The House of Lords EU Committee hear evidence from His Excellency Mr Jan Winkler, Czech Ambassador to the UK, on his countries priorities for the Czech EU Presidency in 2009, from 4.30pm.

The House of Lords EU Select Committee hear evidence from the UK Ambassador of the country holding the EU Presidency at the start of each Presidency, and this session gives the Committee an early opportunity to quiz Mr Winkler the Czech’s objectives for their Presidency.

Areas which the Committee are likely to question Mr Winkler include the Czech’s views on reform and regulation of the European banking sector in response to the financial crisis, the EU’s position on the situation in the Middle East, the Czech’s stance on the Russia/Ukraine gas dispute and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy.
