The new House of Lords Select Committee on the Barnett Formula hears evidence from Lord Barnett, who originally developed the formula and now argues for its reform. The evidence session takes place at 4.30pm on in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.

The Committee, which is chaired by Lord Richard, had been set up to sit for one Parliamentary session to examine the purpose, methodology and application of the Barnett Formula as a means of delivering funding for the devolved administrations of the UK. The Committee is this year’s ‘ad-hoc’ committee in the Lords. An ad-hoc Committee is set up each year to look a specific issue of interest to the House.

Lord Barnett will be asked to explain the original thinking behind the Barnett Formula as well as for his current views on why and how the Formula should be reformed.
