The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee’s report on policing and criminal justice in Northern Ireland, published in July 2008, is the topic for debate in Westminster Hall at 2.30pm.

The report was the Committee’s major report of the last session, and involved consideration of a number of aspects of the work of the Historic Enquiries Team, the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland and various statutory inquiries into recent historical events in Northern Ireland.

The Committee stated in its report summarising its work of the last session, that

'The Government’s response (to the Policing the Past report) was generally very positive but did not in every case provide a full answer to our recommendations. We have therefore sought a debate in the House on our Report, which we hope will take place early in 2009. We may seek to contribute further to developments in this respect once the final report of the Consultative Group has been published.'
