Press standards inquiry begins

The Culture, Media and Sport Committee holds the first evidence session of its inquiry into press standards, privacy and libel, from 10.45 am

The Committee takes evidence from two panels of lawyers. The first panel have acted for and advised the press in libel and privacy cases and the second panel have acted for and advised claimants. Issues such as the effect of the Internet on privacy and the Human Rights Act on the freedom of the press are likely to come up as well as the effectiveness of the Press Complaints Commission.
