The House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee, which is currently conducting an inquiry into banking supervision and regulation, takes evidence from Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England and Lord Turner, Chairman of the Financial Services Authority (FSA). The evidence sessions start at 3.35pm in Committee Room 3 of the House of Lords.

The evidence sessions follow last week's evidence to the Committee given by the Chief Executives of major high street banks and building societies.

Mervyn King will be questioned from 3.35pm by the Committee on the Bank of England’s role in regulating the banking sector as well as on monetary policy pursued by the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee.

In the second session at 4.15pm, Lord Turner will be asked about the FSA’s role in the current banking crises, whether the Agency did enough to prevent British banks running into serious financial difficulties, and the Turner Review of banking regulation which was published last week.
