Members of the House of Lords discussed the general principles of the Postal Services Bill on 10 March.

The second reading saw contributions from Members with a wide range of expertise on business, the public sector and more. An amendment opposing the second reading by Lord Clarke of Hampstead, a former postman, was discussed but no vote took place.

The committee stage - line by line examination of the Bill - where every suggested change can be discussed and votes can happen, is scheduled for 24 March.

The Bill aims to to make provision for the restructuring of the Royal Mail Group, the Royal Mail Pension Plan and makes new provision about the regulation of postal services.
