The Energy and Climate Change Committee holds its second oral evidence session for its inquiry on the future of Britain’s electricity networks at 9.15 am.

The Committee will hear from the owners of the transmission networks in Great Britain, and then the sector skills council for the power industry.

The session will cover a range of issues, including:

  • The challenges that meeting the 2020 renewables target, and longer-term security of energy supply and climate change goals, pose for the transmission network;
  • The issues surrounding the establishment of a cost-effective offshore transmission regime;
  • How the regulatory framework can encourage network operators to innovate; and
  • The action required to bridge the skills gap in the power sector.
