Committee takes evidence on teacher training

The Children, Schools and Families Committee holds the second evidence session of its inquiry into teacher training. The meeting takes place at 3.45pm in the Wilson Room in Portcullis House

Witnesses appearing before the Committee will be:

  • Keith Bartley, Chief Executive, General Teaching Council for England (GTCE)
  • Professor Sonia Blandford, Director of Leadership Development, Teach First
  • Professor Chris Husbands, Dean, Faculty of Culture and Pedagogy, Institute of Education, University of London; and
  • Professor Roger Woods, Chair, Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers (UCET).

The meeting will consider:

  • the Teach First teacher training programme
  • the Government’s six month teacher training proposal
  • preparing teachers to work in challenging schools
  • the sustainability of university-school partnerships in the delivery of teacher training
  • recruiting and supporting teacher trainers and school-based teacher mentors
  • the impact of current accountability arrangements on teacher training provision; and
  • the implications of the 14-19 reforms for teacher training.
