Minister gives evidence on international aid

Douglas Alexander, Secretary of State for International Development, appears before the International Development Committee at 3.30pm.

This is the fifth and final evidence session for the inquiry into Aid Under Pressure. It will focus on the range of issues detailed below as well as providing an opportunity to explore the likely impact of the outcome of the G20 summit on the developing world:

The specific issues which are being examined in this inquiry are:

  • The impact of the financial crisis on international support for development, including levels of official development assistance, foreign investment, trade policy and innovative sources of finance
  • The effectiveness of DFID’s advocacy strategies in encouraging other donors to fulfil their international aid commitments
  • The impact of the economic downturn on public support for development expenditure
  • The effectiveness of DFID’s strategy for strengthening public support for its work.
