Perpetuities and Accumulations Bill: second reading

Second reading of the Perpetuities and Accumalations Bill took place on 28 April in a second reading committee. Members of the Lords contributed to a discussion on property ownership in England and Wales and the Bill's general principles.

The Perpetuities and Accumulation Bill is the first of a two-Bill trial of a new House of Lords procedure for Law Commission Bills that is broadly supported across the House. The new procedure will be reviewed when the trial is complete.
The Bill returns to the Lords Chamber for a further second reading - which will be taken formally with no debate - and to set up a special Public Bill Committee. The Public Bill Committee will examine the Bill line by line and can take evidence from the public.
