Committee looks at future of electricity networks

• Energy and Climate Change Committee

The Committee will hear from Energy Networks Association, the trade association representing the network operators, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the professional body for engineering and technology professionals.

The session will cover a range of issues, including:

• The challenges that meeting the 2020 renewables target, and longer-term security of energy supply and climate change goals, pose for the distribution networks networks;

• The regulatory framework for future investment in the distribution networks;

• Innovation and the development of 'smart grid' technologies; and

• The issues surrounding the establishment of a cost-effective offshore transmission regime.
