Coroners and Justice Bill: second reading

The Coroners and Justice Bill, which would change the law on a range of issues - from the use of juries in inquests to inciting hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation - was discussed in the House of Lords on 18 May
Over 40 Members of the Lords, including former Chiefs of Defence Staff, a former Lord Chancellor and a retired Law Lord - and those with experience and expertise in the penal system, medicine, human rights and more - took part in a discussion of the general aims and principles of the Government's Bill.

The committee stage - line by line examination of the Bill - is scheduled for 9 June. Every suggested change (amendment) to the Bill can be discussed and every clause has to be agreed to. During committee stage every Member can take part and votes can happen.
