Evidence session on Gurkhas settlement rights

The Home Affairs Committee takes evidence from Government Ministers and campaigner Joanna Lumley on Gurkhas settlement rights from 12.15pm.

Giving evidence at 12.15pm will be Phil Woolas MP, Minister of State for Borders and Immigration, and Kevan Jones MP, Under-Secretary of State for Defence and Minister for Veterans. Also giving evidence from 12.45pm will be Joanna Lumley, Gurkha campaigner.
The Committee will ask Government Ministers how they intend to reflect the clear will of the House as expressed in the Motion agreed to allow all Gurkhas settlement rights in the UK.
Rt Hon Keith Vaz MP, Chairman of the Committee said:
"This session was arranged before the Government's defeat in the Commons last week. However it gives the Government, through the two principal Ministers involved, an opportunity to share with the Committee their proposal for dealing with the will of the House in implementing an agreeable policy for the settlement of Gurkhas."
This Home Affairs Committee evidence session begins at 11.15am when it will hear evidence for its inquiries into the G20 protests and the use of tasers by the police.
