Lords report on allegations

The report of the Committee for Privileges on allegations against four Members of the House of Lords has been published.

The report’s recommendations have to be agreed to by the House of Lords before they can be implemented.
Sanctions
The Committee has, at the same time, published a report on the powers of the House of Lords to discipline its Members.
Background
The Sub-Committee on Lords’ Interests (which reports to the Committee for Privileges), considers matters related to the Register of Interests. It conducted an investigation into The Sunday Times allegations - of 25 January 2009 - against four Members of the Lords.
The Committee for Privileges has considered the Sub-Committee’s conclusions, along with appeals by three of the four Members, and its report has been published today. The Sub-Committee’s report is appended to it.
