The Environmental Audit Committee takes evidence at 10.20 am as part of its carbon budgets inquiry

Giving evidence at 10.20am will be:

  • Professor Kevin Anderson, Director, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research
  • Professor John Mitchell OBE FRS, Director of Climate Science, and
  • Dr Jason Lowe, Head of Mitigation Advice, Met Office.

The carbon budgets inquiry will examine how well the budgets recommended by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) correspond to the emissions reductions required by countries such as the UK to limit global warming to 2oC, the Government's target for "avoiding dangerous climate change". The inquiry will look at the two suggested targets for 2020, and how these would affect the trajectory required to meet the UK's target for 2050. The Committee will examine the implications of the latest developments in climate science for carbon budgeting policy.
