The House of Lords Constitution Committee hears evidence from 11am for its inquiry into the contemporary workings of the Cabinet Office and the centre of government.

The witnesses before the Committee include:

From 11am

  • Professor Peter Hennessy, Attlee Professor of Contemporary British History, Queen Mary University of London
  • Tony Wright MP, Chairman, House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee

From 11.45am

  • Peter Riddell, Chief Political Commentator, The Times
  • Simon Jenkins, Columnist, The Guardian

The role and nature of the Cabinet Office, and the centre of government more widely, has changed markedly in recent years. The Committee's inquiry seeks to investigate the role of the Cabinet Office in the light of the changing nature of British governance, often characterised by a more diverse, fragmented, complex, pluralistic and decentralised policy-making arena.
