John Hutton, Defence Secretary, answered MPs' questions on various defence matters including the recent judgment in the Court of Appeal on the application of human rights legislation to soldiers on operations; military equipment in Afghanistan; piracy in the horn of Africa; and the UN Mission to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Each government department answers questions according to a rota called the Order of Oral Questions. The questions asked must relate to the responsibilities of the department concerned.
