The inquiry has, to date, heard evidence from a variety of sources that include newspaper editors, young people, web specialists, stakeholders such as the Hansard Society and the Digital Engagement Minister, Tom Watson MP.
The Committee is examining ways to make the House of Lords more open and transparent. The broadcasters will be questioned on topics including ways to encourage communication between broadcasters and Members, access for filming in Parliament, experiences of broadcasting in Westminster, and the potential for expanding coverage through better use of the internet (such as YouTube and providing more information online about bills).
Giving evidence to the Committee will be:
- Peter Knowles – Controller of BBC Parliament and Editor of Parliamentary Programmes
- Adam Boulton – Political Editor, Sky News
- Toby Castle – Westminster News Editor, ITV News
- Gary Gibbon – Political Editor, Channel 4 News
- Simon Mares – Westminster Editor, ITV Regions
The Committee also ran an online forum to listen to the views of the public as part of the inquiry and invited the public to submit their thoughts as video responses on the UK Parliament's YouTube channel.
