Lord Speaker’s competition 2009: shortlist
19 June 2009 (updated on 22 April 2010)
We have been delighted by the response to the Lord Speaker's 'Raw Deal or Truth Told?' competition for young people and are pleased to announce the shortlisted 10 entries from schools and youth organisations across the UK.
We received 150 entries - involving over 500 students - and saw a wide range of different creative responses to the issue of young people's portrayal in the media.
While we were impressed by many of the submissions from across the UK, we have shortlisted the following.
- Cockermouth School in Cumbria, who submitted a set of posters
- Dunfermline High School in Fife, for a written essay
- Hatch End High School in Harrow, who produced a newspaper article
- Headliners Young News Agency, Belfast, who made a film
- Medway Youth Parliament, Kent, who submitted an essay
- Participation Opportunities in North Tyneside (POINT), North Shields, who made a film
- Rathmore Grammar School, Belfast, for a mock-up newspaper article
- Slemish College in Ballymena, who created a collage
- Tunbridge Wells High School in Kent, for their film
The three winning submissions will be selected and the groups contacted in the week beginning 22 June.
Thank you to everyone who entered the competition to share your views about young people in the media.
You will each receive a certificate and will be able to see the report the Hansard Society will produce - collating and summarising all your responses to this important issue.
