The Committee is holding the one-off evidence session with Professor Beddington in order to explore some of the important scientific challenges confronting the Government today and to find how science is used within government, including how the Chief Scientific Adviser participates in policy-making within departments of Government.
Some of the areas the Committee will explore include how much influence science and scientists have on Government departmental policy-making, how the Government ensures that the scientific advice they receive is independent, the new strategy for Science in Government and the health of the Haldane Principle.
The Committee will also be asking about the Government’s response to the new threat of swine flu.
