MPs question Tony Blair about Middle East

The Foreign Affairs Committee hears evidence from Tony Blair, Representative of the Middle East Quartet, from 11am, as part of its inquiry into Global Security: Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The Committee is likely to question Mr Blair on his work as Quartet Representative and his assessment of recent developments in, and international policies towards, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
This will be the third evidence session for the Committee’s inquiry. The Committee decided in early 2009 to conduct a follow-up inquiry to its 2007 Report on Global Security: The Middle East, in the light of recent developments in the region - principally the conflict in Gaza and the election of a new US Administration and Israeli Government.
So far, the Committee has conducted two evidence sessions:
- Academics and analysts evidence session from 11 February 2009
- FCO Minister of State Bill Rammell MP evidence session 4 March 2009
The Committee also visited Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including Gaza, in March 2009.
Mr Blair was appointed as Quartet Representative at the end of June 2007, with a mandate to work primarily on the development of the economy and institutions of a future Palestinian state. The Middle East Quartet comprises the EU, Russia, the UN and the US.
