Nominations begin for new Speaker

Candidates for Speaker are now submitting their nominations. Written nominations for candidates must be tabled in the House of Commons Lower Table Office between 9.30am and 10.30am.

Nominations must include:

  • A signed declaration from the candidate stating that they are willing to stand for election.
  • The signatures of at least 12 and no more than 15 members of whom at least three must be elected as members of a party other than that of the candidate, or of no party.

Nominations close at 10.30am and a list of candidates will be published at approximately 11am.
