Teacher training and social mobility evidence session

The Children, Schools and Families Committee hears evidence on training and development arrangements for further education teachers from 3.45 pm. In the second part of the evidence session the Committee looks at measures to improve social mobility and reviews the work of the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions
Further education
In the first part of the evidence session the Committee looks at the training and development arrangements for those wanting to teach in the further education sector. Including:
- teacher training qualifications for further education teachers
- registration requirements for further education teachers
- the staffing of vocational programmes in schools and colleges
- co-ordination across the agencies concerned with teacher training for schools and for colleges
Witnesses include the Institute for Learning, Lifelong Learning UK, the Association of Colleges and the Principals' Professional Council.
Social mobility
The Committee then looks at the issue of social mobility and the work of the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions, from 4.45pm. Including:
- a review of the work so far of the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions
- a review of recent research on attainment gaps and levels of aspiration
- an examination of the potential for measures relating to children, schools and families set out in the 'New Opportunities' White Paper, published in January 2009, to increase upward social mobility
