Welfare Reform Bill: committee stage

A Government Bill aiming to reform the welfare and benefit system was examined in the House of Lords during the third day of Grand Committee on the Bill on 15 June.
Clauses 1-2 - which included "work for your benefit" schemes for assisting persons to obtain employment - were discussed.

During Grand Committee (which takes place outside the Lords Chamber), line by line examination of the Bill takes place - as per the committee stage of a Bill in the Lords Chamber. Every amendment (proposal for change) suggested is discussed and the Bill can be changed but voting does not take place.
A fourth day of committee stage on the Bill takes place on 18 June.
